While I have written at length on the website about the long term health benefits that you’ll receive when you use an infrared sauna over the span of months, the short term benefits are equally as amazing. I can take off weeks from using my sauna and start back up again and immediately experience two things happening:
• Incredible sleep
• A calm heart
I don’t necessarily have sleep problems but when I use my sauna everyday I sleep incredibly well that night. This is regardless of how my day went. I go right to sleep and wake up refreshed in the morning. I am much less reliant on caffeine in the morning and throughout the day.
I also have hereditary high blood pressure with a resting pulse in the low 90’s. This feels very uncomfortable and like I have a feeling of constant unease–a lot of it is just stress. When I use my sauna I feel like that weight has been lifted and I can just relax. Part of this is that when you take an infrared sauna your body goes into the parasympathetic mode of relaxation.
The autonomic nervous system controls the involuntary processes of your body (like heart rate and breaths per minute) and exists purely for survival. Your body can only be in one of two modes at a time–the sympathetic or the parasympathetic. The sympathetic nervous system is the fight in the fight or flight stress response–as a result in the sympathetic nervous system mode you have increased heart rate, dilated pupils and blood vessels and increased adrenaline. When you are stressed out you’re in the sympathetic nervous system. When you’re relaxed your body goes into the parasympathetic nervous system.
When you are in the parasympathetic mode your body relaxes, your blood pressure goes down, you have more natural energy and much better sleep quality. Nothing relaxes you more than an infrared sauna. Because of this, you will have the best sleep of your life and a calm, relaxed heart. It’s very important that you spend more time than not in the parasympathetic nervous system response.
