It truly feels like we are in the “dog days” of summer! I always thought this meant that those summer days were so terribly hot that even dogs would lie around on the ground, panting, barely escaping heatstroke.
Many people today use the phrase to mean something like that however, originally the phrase actually had nothing to do with dogs, the heat or the lazy days of summer. Instead, the dog days phrase actually refers to the dog star, Sirius, and its position in the heavens. To the Greeks and Romans, the “dog days” occurred around the day when Sirius appeared to rise just before the sun, in late July. This indicated the hottest time of the year, a period that could bring fever, or even catastrophe. Currently we seem to consider the month of August as a time marked by heat, lethargy, inactivity even laziness.
I know that every once and awhile we all feel a lazy, overly stressed, over worked or just plain out of energy. For most this is just temporary for others it can manifest from feeling blue into full blown depression. I know you’re going to think I’ve lost my mind to suggest you climb into an even hotter environment during the peak heat of summer but I guarantee, once inside your sauna, you will feel better and once you’ve showered off you will feel amazing! Far Infrared sauna therapy will not cure lethargy or depression however it has been proven to attack some of the underlying issues causing those feelings. Added to your other healthy, daily activities a session in a Far Infrared sauna can surprisingly lighten either temporary or long term mood swings.
There is a preponderance of evidence linking some of these summer-heat afflictions, depression and it’s sometime accompanying by-product, anxiety, with some of the many toxic chemicals stored in the fat cells within your own body. Most of these chemicals are fat-soluable. These deposits leak into the bloodstream slowly some remaining there our entire lives. It is basically impossible to rid the body of these chemicals trapped in fat cells.
With the emergence of third party testing now available one therapy has surfaced as perhaps the most effective avenue in the elimination of toxic chemicals. It is Far Infrared sauna therapy. Currently it is the safest form of sauna therapy using far infrared light frequencies; the same used in hospitals to warm newborn infants. Far Infrared sauna therapy provides a deep, penetrating heat which in turn produces a detoxifying and comfortable sweat. As the body sweats it safely rids itself of the toxins trapped within the fat cells. Many people with high toxicity say that after a few sessions their sweat was oily and smelled of chemicals. A quick shower or bath then rids the body completely of toxins.
Far Infrared sauna therapy is the best way to detoxify from chemicals and reestablish good health, thus reducing seasonal mood swings. As interesting evidence of this, in the April 2006 Townsend Letter (N.273) a non-profit organization was organized to offer the first responders, from the 911 tragedy, relief from the many symptoms related to all the chemicals they inhaled, ingested or absorbed through their skin. Those who participated in Far Infrared sauna therapy experienced dramatic improvement in overall health and a reduction in mood swings, anxiety and depression.
For better mental health and the ability to conquer those “dog days” of summer search out and find a Far Infrared sauna. You will notice the difference even after only one session. You will feel refreshed, relaxed and simply wonderful. Your mood will be lightened as stress melts away. I know my sauna is the first place I head for feeling better no matter what the weather. Give it a try!
