This study collected data to determine if infrared sauna therapy improves endothelial function for patients with coronary risk factors like hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, diabetes mellitus and smoking.
Patients tested included 25 men with at least one coronary risk factor and ten men without any heart problems or risk factors. The risk group received infrared sauna treatment at 140 F for 15 minutes once a day for two weeks. To measure endothelial function, they measured brachial artery diameter.
Two weeks of infrared sauna therapy significantly improved %FMD in the risk group, proving that infrared sauna treatment improves vascular endothelial function for people with coronary risk factors for atherosclerosis.
