Let’s face it, every once and awhile we all feel a little blue, out of sorts, overly stressed, overworked and simply out of gas. For some, it is just temporary. For others it can manifest in a full-blown depression. There are many varying causes underlying depression and far infrared sauna therapy would never claim to cure but could and does aid in assisting symptom reduction. It really helps to include a daily session of far infrared into your already healthy lifestyle. It can lighten up those symptoms both of either short or even long-term depression.
A great deal of evidence exists linking both depression and anxiety to toxic overload. We are bombarded with chemicals and toxins every day and they become efficiently stored in the body’s fat cells; many toxins are fat soluble. The toxic deposits seep into the bloodstream and can remain there our entire lives. It is extremely difficult and truly next to impossible to rid the body of these toxic and trapped chemicals.
So here was the question: could taking a far infrared sauna make me feel so good it would almost border on that delightfully high feeling of euphoria? This would certainly battle any feelings of depression. It may surprise you to note that it can do exactly just that. Far infrared heat functions fundamentally in the same way the sun shines it’s heated rays on earth. Essentially the infrared heat has the advantages of sunlight with no detrimental solar radiation. Rumor had it that after only one session in the infrared heat a person would actually begin to feel a euphoric high.
In 2005 a research study in Japan discovered that far infrared sauna therapy, along with other treatments to include exercise and psychological counseling, worked successfully in conjunction with each other, by lifting a person’s mood and well-being far more successfully than without the far infrared therapy. Therapy treatments were implemented once a day for a month. The results were followed right away then a follow-up study was performed two years later. Initially, patients were asked to rate themselves for mood, depression, anger, etc.. All were significantly lower when far infrared sauna therapy was part of the protocol. Even the study two years following treatment found that over 77% were still feeling great.
With the emergence of third-party testing now available this one therapy surfaced as perhaps the most effective avenue in the elimination of toxic chemicals; far infrared sauna therapy also called FIR. This far infrared therapy is by far the safest form of sauna therapy. This therapy uses far infrared light frequencies which are the same used in hospitals that warm newborns. FIR provides a deep, penetrating heat which in turn produces a detoxifying and comfortable sweat. As the body sweats it safely rids itself of the toxins trapped within the fat cells. Many people with high toxicity say that after a few sessions their sweat was oily and smelled of chemicals. A quick shower or bath then rids the body completely of toxins.
Far infrared sauna therapy is the best way to detoxify chemicals and reestablish good health, thus reducing depression. As interesting evidence of this, in the April 2006 Townsend Letter (N.273) a non-profit organization was organized to offer the first responders, from the 911 tragedy, relief from the many symptoms related to all the chemicals they inhaled, ingested or absorbed through their skin. As you can read at www.townsendletter.com those who participated in FIR therapy experienced a dramatic improvement in overall health and a reduction in depression. Additionally, there is much research available on how effective far infrared therapy is in the reduction of symptoms from depression, especially when caused by chemical toxic overload.
It is true that this is the reality of the far infrared experience. Initially, all that effective sweating rids your body of toxins thus allowing for an immediate cleanse and decrease in Cortisol. This is followed by a clear head and any brain fog simply disappears. Immediately following is the sense of elation from raised Serotonin levels and a boost in Endorphins. They efficiently flood your system relaxing you beyond belief! It does not take many sessions in a far infrared sauna before you experience the great feelings elicited while inside; you feel like you’re floating on a cloud as you exit. If you really want to experience additional euphoria take a hot bath or shower after the sauna and you have the benefit of an amazing night’s rest.
So great to have studies back up how I feel after I experience a far infrared sauna treatment. Additional benefits of consistent far infrared sauna therapy include an increase in energy levels and the improved appearance of my skin. Far infrared heat aids in my ability to meditate and I find I often practice my meditation during sessions. Also, I de-stress and I note it is easier to recover from an extensive exercise outing. The warmth allows me to more effectively stretch out sore muscles, as well.
Combining the euphoria from the sauna with the added pain relief, better circulation, improved skin texture and the continuous detoxing I have also found I am losing weight. Who wouldn’t want to enjoy all of these benefits, along with simply feeling better, when using a far infrared sauna!
