There are always a great deal of questions I am consistently asked in terms of Far Infrared sauna usage, results, etc., however many of them revolve around how to keep your Far Infrared sauna clean. This is truly an important part of the sauna experience and the good news is it is unusually easy. There is simply nothing more relaxing than my evening Far Infrared sauna session. It leaves me feeling relaxed, refreshed and de-stressed. Afterwards a hot shower finishes the session leaving me feeling clean and refreshed. I’d like to share some tips for maintaining the cleanliness of the sauna. Infrared saunas are incredibly easy to maintain and keep clean with a minimum of care and if properly attended to can last you your entire life. The following tips touch upon the many ways to preserve your infrared sauna.
Initially be sure your sauna is properly installed and protected. The electrical elements need to be in a safe, damp free environment (or properly covered if outside). To insure the maximum lifespan of your sauna try not to keep it on for more than two hours at a time. No need to overdo! Although you do not need to be overly cautious about sweating in your sauna it’s a good idea to gather and use a few layers of clean towels on the bench and floor. Towels are great at absorbing perspiration and do not interfere with the heat coming through.
It is not necessary to clean your sauna after each use however, if the sauna is used three to five times a week best to attend to it at least once a week. Will the sauna fall apart if you don’t? No, however, your sauna is an investment in your health so maintain it and it will give you years of pleasure. When cleaning the inside of the sauna due to general wear and tear, make sure that you stay true to the detoxifying effect of the sauna and use products that are completely non-toxic and environmentally friendly. Mix organic cider vinegar with water in a 1 to 3 ratio and gently sponge down the entirety of the interior. If unsure, use the manufacturer’s guidebook to find a contact number and inquire directly about what type of non-toxic cleaner is best to use. Some infrared sauna companies produce their own effective cleaning products.
If you take care of your infrared sauna it will take care of you for many years to come. Just a few minutes a week and you can maintain the cleanliness and freshness of your sauna cabin!
